TUSK (1980)(C)(DVDR)
- Considered one

STAR
WARS TRILOGY ORIGINAL VERSIONS (A+)(4DVDRs)
- It was kind of a novel thought in the mid 90s when George Lucus decided
to rerelease the classic Star Wars trilogy with some added lost scenes, enhanced
effects and some minor changes. The extra scenes sounded cool, of course, but
why mess with a classic? And the enhanced effects seemed unnecessary, too- hey,
it's Star Wars! As for the changes, well they're completely silly and unneeded-
who cared that Hans Solo shot first in a fire-fight scene? Why did they go and
change these masterpieces? Should Da Vinci have gone back 20 years after
painting the Mona Lisa and change it just because he could? Equally baffling and
frustrating is the fact that the original trilogy is absent on DVD and will
continue to remain that way. Yes, Mr. Lucas is inexplicably set on his modern
versions of Star Wars.

more.
STAR
WARS AUDITION FILMS (C+)(DVDR)
- This
is a rare chance to see some of the full audition films / screen tests that were
run for the original Star Wars. Fascinating viewing for any fan, it's amazing to
think how different Hollywood history would be had any of those other actors had
been chosen.
BRAZILIAN STAR WARS (1978)(DVDR) - Just when you thought Turkish Star Wars was the most fun you could have, along comes Brazilian Star Wars. We actually have a Darth Vader look alike in this one, but the music is more of a disco score than the ripped off Indiana Jones action in Turkish Star Wars; nonetheless, Brazilian Star Wars is a great addition to that shelf of entertaining stinkula.
TURKISH STAR WARS DVD (A)- For anyone who has not seen any Turkish cinema, Turkish Star Wars is certainly the best barometer you can find. Using actual footage from the original Star Wars, the story is about 2 space fighter pilots who are shot down over a desert planet and discover a colony of people who are being oppressed by horse back riding mutant savages! It's up to them to save the people from the oppressive mutants! Combining life size evil Muppets with a Flash Gordon like bad guy; and stealing not only footage and soundtrack from Star Wars, but music from Indiana Jones and others.
STAR WARS:MISSING BIGGS SCENE (A)(CL)- A long lost scene from the original STAR WARS. This is A quality in the sense that the subtitles are very clear but the actual footage quality is completly awful!
SEX WARS XXX (DVDR)(C)(X)- Hardcore cash in on Star Wars is hilariously awful. You wont get aroused but you will laugh your nut sac off at the ludicrous set designs, funky dime store costumes and nekked people who probably should put there clothes back on!

Director Frederick Wiseman is one of the most respected and most prolific documentary filmmakers still around and still working. His style is true cinema verite and it appears that he is the most objective person of all, just turning the camera on and letting it roll. Or course, that is certainly not the case. He is one of the most adventurous, intuitive and masterful filmmakers of our time.
TITTICUT FOLLIES
(1967) (DVDR)(B)-
The only American film banned from
release for reasons other than obscenity or national security, Titicut Follies
was filmed inside the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Bridgewater, a
prison hospital for the criminally insane. After the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts sued the filmmakers, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court
ruled that the film constituted was an invasion of inmate privacy and ordered
the withdrawal of the film from circulation.
HIGH
SCHOOL (1968) (DVDR)(B)- For his second film, Wiseman took his cameras to
NorthEast High School in Philadelphia. Letting the camera tell the story, this
is cinema verite at its finest, showing the oppression that students can
experience in our learning institution. A great film all of the way through.
B&W.
HIGH SCHOOL 2 (1994)
(DVDR)(B)- This
documentary program by Frederick Wiseman is about a successful alternative high
school in New York's Spanish Harlem, 85-95% of whose graduates go on to
four-year colleges. The film illustrates the school's emphasis on "Habits
of Mind" (weighing evidence; awareness of multiple points of view; seeing
connections and relationships; speculating on possibilities; and assessing
values.) Sequences illustrating the School's approach to learning include:
classroom activities in the humanities and sciences; family conferences;
discussions of race, class, and gender; faculty meetings; disciplinary problems;
sex education; conflict resolution by students; and student council meetings.
LAW AND ORDER (1969) (DVDR)(B)
- This emmy
award winning Wiseman documentary explores all the tasks that the police are
required to to perform, from enforcing the law to maintaining order to providing
general social services. Released twenty years before "Cops" and all
its imitators hit primetime television, Frederick Wiseman's Law and Order was
years ahead of its time. B&W
HOSPITAL (1970) (DVDR)(C+)
- Acclaimed
documentarian Fredrick Wiseman trains his notorious camera on the goings on of a
hospital used primarily by people from a lower income bracket, and the results
will likely sadden and horrify you. This shocking film is filled with some truly
memorable moments and is one of the best documentaries you will ever see. This
won 3 Emmy awards.
MEAT (1976) (DVDR)(B)
-
This is an amazing
motion picture which tracks the production of meat, starting with livestock, and
ending with the clear-wrapped steaks we find in our markets.
MODEL (1980) (DVDR)(B)
- Men and women
who model for television commercials, fashion shows, and advertising are
highlighted in this Wiseman documentary. The models are seen at work with
photographers whose techniques illustrate different styles of fashion and
product photography. The film also focuses on the business aspect of running an
agency - interviewing prospective models, career counseling, arranging
portfolios, talking with clients and planning trips. A different take for
Wiseman, this is quite an interesting look at this industry in the late 70s.
B&W

the main Neiman-Marcus store and corporate headquarters in Dallas. The sequences

changing public housing. The scenes illustrate some of the experiences of people
living in conditions of extreme poverty.
NEAR DEATH (1989)2
DVDRs) (B) - Frederick Wiseman documentary about the Medical
Intensive Care Unit at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital. The film focuses on how
people face death, and the complex relationships between patients, families,

in making decisions about whether or not to give life-sustaining treatment to
dying patients.
ZOO (1989) (DVDR)

diversity of interests and activities at the zoo and the inter-relatedness of
the animal, human, ethical, financial, technical, organizational and research
aspects of operating the zoo.
HIGH SCHOOL 2 (1994)
(DVDR)(B)- This
documentary program by Frederick Wiseman is about a successful alternative high
school in New York's Spanish Harlem, 85-95% of whose graduates go on to

of Mind" (weighing evidence; awareness of multiple points of view; seeing

values.) Sequences illustrating the School's approach to learning include:
classroom activities in the humanities and sciences; family conferences;
discussions of race, class, and gender; faculty meetings; disciplinary problems;

THE DIANE LINKLETTER STORY/WATERS ON LETTERMAN (DVDR) - This dvd has a very early John Waters short film, The Diane Linkletter Story from 1970. Divine stars as Diane, Art Linkletter's troubled daughter, who trips on acid and takes a dive off the family balcony to her death. It needs to be seen to be believed. Art Linkletter himself, is said to have seen the film, and has tried for years to keep it out of circulation. Pic qualty is only fair on this rare title, rumor is this film only cost a couple of hundred dollars to make. DVD also includes three early appearances from John Waters and Divine on the Letterman Show, from 1981. Waters discusses his early film work, with clips from Female Trouble, Mulitple Maniacs and Polyester. Divine performs two live songs to the very shocked audience, "Born To Be Cheap" and "The Name Game." Both sit on the couch with Letterman, to be interviewed. Pic quality is sharp on the the tv appearance titles.

THE WORLD’S GREATEST SINNER (1962)(DVDR) - A bored insurance salesman quits his job to go into politics. He first starts preaching about how man is greater than he thinks and that man can live forever. He ends up forming his own political party, "The Eternal Man" party. He begins to be referred to as "God". Then he starts having doubts about the eternalness of man.
DEMON LOVER DIARY (1980)(DVD-R)(B+) - This documentary on the making of a terrible horror film is actually very similar to the more recent American Movie. One of the producers cut off his finger for insurance money, and the hired cinematographers battle back and forth with the creators of a film that is horribly unorganized and horrific in the wrong sense.
VLAD TEPES (1979)(DVDR) - English Subtitled. Excellent biopic on the ruling life of Vlad the Impaler, also known as Dracula
7 FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN (1929)(DVDR) - B&W/ Silent w/ Italian Inter titles/ Directed by: Benjamin Christensen. Directed by the creator of Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages, this film takes place in a mysterious house under the influence of the eccentric Mr. Satan. A simple tale with eerie characters and interesting direction.
FUN (1994)(DVDR) - Starring Alicia Witt. Two young girls get together, eat ice cream, and kill and old woman. A great art film that asks the audience to sympathize with the beasts.
DIRTY COP, NO DONUT (1999)(DVDR) - In this pseudo-shockumentary, you will see the public's worst nightmare become a reality as a demented "officer of the law" goes over the edge and exacts his own brand of justice on almost everyone he encounters on a ten hour graveyard shift. See him mutilate rapists, annihilate druck drivers, proposition ladies of the evening for sexual favors, and steal a local drug dealer's stash for his own use! And the spiral downward just continues from there, as he encounters vagrants and a domestic dispute that drive him completely out of his drug-clouded mind! Worse yet, there is the uncaring cameraman, who dispassionately and cruelly lenses the events as they unfold without lending a helping hand to any of the unfortunate victims as they are terrorized by this maniac cop! In fact, he seems to get off on all this as much as the cop
THE DIRK DIGGLER STORY/PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON COLLECTION (DVDR) - "The Dirk Diggler Story" Made by Anderson when he was just 17 years old, and edited with two VCRs, this documentary film about the rise and fall of porn star Dirk Diggler would later be rewritten and shot as Boogie Nights . "Cigarettes & Coffee" (1993) This Anderson short consists of three stories which ultimately become intertwined. Hard Eight may have been a rewriting of this film, and Magnolia contains some similarities as well.

MARILYN MONROE: SOMETHING’S GOT TO GIVE RAW FOOTAGE, 120 MIN, (B)(DVDR) - This is an amazingly rare collection of raw footage and takes from Marilyn’s final unfinished film. There was supposedly close to nine hours shot and here is about 1/4 of it. Featuring scenes with Dean Martin and the famous pool sequence, this is surprisingly good quality.
THE LONDON NOBODY KNOWS (1967) 45 MIN, (B)(DVDR) - Narrated by James Mason, this vintage documentary takes the viewer on a tour of London's seedier locales and back alleys, street markets and factories (watch for a very interesting scene at an egg-breaking factory) and some infamous Jack The Ripper crime scenes. Occasionally amusing, this is a great piece and the only complaint that I would have is that it doesn't last longer!
MAN RAY FILM COLLECTION 120 MIN (DVDR) - This is a collection of photographer Man Ray's short films from the 1920s and 1930s.
MAYSLES BROTHERS RARE FILMS 80 MIN, (C)(DVDR) - This disc features 2 rare documentaries by the filmmakers who directed "Gimme Shelter" and "Salesman" and "Grey Gardens". First up is Meet Marlon Brando (1966) which features a candid interview in a NY hotel room. Running 26 minutes, B&W, quality is a little degenerated but this is very rare. Next up is Showman (1963) which is a documentary on movie mogul Joseph Levine in his day-to-day life. Running 51 minutes, B&W.
JAMES ELLROY'S WHITE JAZZ 50 MIN, (B)(DVDR) - Writer James Ellroy narrates and "stars" in this documentary on his life and the murder of his mother. A great disc for fans of this great modern noir author. Good quality.
JAMES ELLROY'S FEAST OF DEATH (2001) 90 MIN, (B)(DVDR) - This is a wonderful and unsettling documentary by BBC Four examining Ellroy and his fascination with unsolved murders, especially those of his mother and the Black Dahlia. Completely engaging, this features interviews with Ellroy and LAPD detectives as well as rare archival footage. Quality is a slight grade down, but this is an essential disc for noir fans.
JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK : WORKPRINT (2DVDRs) - This has lots AND I MEAN LOTS of extra footage
RANKIN & BASS : THE LAST UNICORN (UNCUT)(DVDR) - Like many people who have fallen under the spell of The Last Unicorn, I first saw the film on cable television many years ago. Appearing without fanfare, it took me completely by surprise, and I watched it again and again. It was so different from the other animated films I had seen, in part because it looked like anime yet seemed so Western. Written by Peter Beagle and produced by Rankin/Bass, The Last Unicorn also presented a sophisticated story far more adult in nature than the so-called "adult" animated films also shown on cable around the same time. I watched the film, I cherished it, and I never really forgot it. Growing older, I return to the film from time to time, and I still find a freshness to it. While the film is at odds with traditional fairytales in many ways (as will be discussed later) it ironically possesses a timeless quality that is almost fairytale-like.
RANKIN & BASS : THE HOBBIT (DVDR) - Bilbo Baggins the Hobbit was just minding his own business, when his occasional visitor Gandalf the Wizard drops in one night. One by one, a whole group of dwarves drop in, and before he knows it, Bilbo has joined their quest to reclaim their kingdom, taken from them by an evil dragon named Smaug. The only problem is that Gandalf has told the dwarves that Bilbo is an expert burglar, but he isn't....
TERRENCE McKENNA FILMS : VOL 1 (DVDR)(A-B-) - Includes ALIEN DREAMTIME, TIMELINE ZERO, & TOOL:SCHISM, very psychadellic stuff, watch this if you wanna feel groovy
BRUCE CONNER 14 FILMS (DVDR)(B)- One of the great masters of the experimental film, BRUCE CONNER was among the fist to pioneer the use of found footage to a greater degree. His films manipulate found footage, news footage, pop music and sometimes hand drawn onto the film animation to create something quite unlike anything you've ever seen. So many filmmakers owe a debt to this master. This collection includes 14 shorts including his well-respected "A MOVIE" to his exploration fo the Kennedy assassination. A must for experimental film fans.
CHRIS BURDEN COLLECTION (DVDR)(B) - Yet another well known experimental filmmaker/artist, Chris Burden is most remembered for being the dude who had himself shot in the arm in the name of performance art (yes you see it here!). This collection includes his mystifying short film BIG WRENCH about a semi truck and the problems with it, and a long documentary about his various artistic actions which includes super 8 footage of most of these including the shooting incident and many others. He introduces each piece with a tight close up that illuminates his coked out eyes! Awesome!
HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT 15th ANNIVERSARY EDITION PLUS TONS OF EXTRAS (DVDR)(A-)- Fifteen years after John Heyn and Jeff Krulik produced one of the most widely distributed underground videos of all time, they're sending it on the road in celebration of its 15th year in existence. Included in this 90 minute touring package is the original HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT, filmed in the parking lot of a 1986 Judas Priest concert, replete with burnouts, mullets, wasteoids, and zebra spandex. Also included are their numerous "sequels," such as NEIL DIAMOND PARKING LOT, MONSTER TRUCK PARKING LOT, and HARRY POTTER PARKING LOT, as well as a few select tribute videos like RAVER BATHROOM, GIRL POWER PARKING LOT (Spice Girls concert), and more!
JOEL PETER WITKIN: L'IMAGE INDELEBILE & VILE BODIES (DVDR) - Two documentaries that take a look into the process Joel Peter Witkin does to turn the dead into art. Witkin used body parts and entire carcasses to invent a new artform of filth.

JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN (A)(DVDR)(1971) - A young man loses his arms and legs in WWI; he doesn't know if he is asleep or dreaming, dead or alive. He soon figures out how to communicate with his doctors to make them executioners. This is the movie Metalica turned into a rock video.
EUROTIKA (2DVDRs) - Documentary Series Created by Peter Tombs, the writer of Immoral Tales: European Sex and Horror Movies 1956-1984. 10 Episodes: Spanish Horror, Italian Horror, So Sweet, So Perverse; Eurocine; Mad Doctors, Jess Franco; Jose' Larraz; French Blue; Jose' Benazerof; Michael Reeves.
CRONENBERG COMPILATION (2 DVDRs) - A great compilation of unavailable documentaries, TV appearances, and interviews with the director of Scanners, Shivers, Rabid, and many more body destroying films.
POUND (1970)(B-)(DVDR) - This infamous Robert Downey, Sr. film replaces dogs in a pound with human actors and is unusually disturbing and quite funny. This has never been properly released on video and is one of those underground films that has made the rounds for years amongst collectors. The quality is a bit raw, but this is all that I've ever been able to find. STARRING JOE MADDEN, JAMES GREEN • DIRECTED BY ROBERT DOWNEY, SR
WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR
(1965)(DVDR)(C)-
It's hard to imagine how this film
has been ignored and almost forgotten for so many years. This is 60s
exploitation at its apex, trashy, edgy, sleazy and much ahead of its time. Shot
in and around the Deuce, the nastiest part of Times Square, you get a rare
chance to see the seedy locales and make your way through crummy discos, sex
shops, dirty diners and grimy streets. Shot in B&W, much of it
guerilla-style, the film is topped off with a trashy soundtrack and a cast of
characters worthy of Taxi Driver, an obvious product of this era.
WHOEVER SAYS THE TRUTH SHALL DIE (1981) (DVDR)(B) - This is a very rare and informative documentary on the 1975 murder of Pier Paolo Pasolini, famous for directing Salo. He was murdered at the age of 53 by Pino the Frog, a seventeen-year-old male prostitute who claimed he did it in self-defense. There are those, however, who believe that right-wing fascists had him killed for political reasons. Filmmaker Philo Gregstein examines the life of this great director who, with the help of Bernardo Bertolucci and actress Laura Betti, try to make sense of his tragic demise. This is a nice transfer from a very rare VHS copy.
APOCALYPSE NOW WORKPRINT (3 DVDRs) - 5 hour workprint. Letterboxed and timecoded. This is the infamous and elusive rough cut, with many scenes that were not in the theatrical version including the "French plantation" scene, the second, more intimate encounter with the Playboy bunnies, the death of Dennis Hopper's character, the alternate ending, and much more. A lot more footage than Redux. Alternate score includes many selections by The Doors. No end credits. VERY GOOD quality with remixed audio. This is the best quality you'll ever find for this print.

THE JIM ROSE CIRCUS SIDESHOW, NYC, 10/17/92(A) - What can I say, PURE GREATNESS! This was shot by an audience member and is "byooooooooooooooooootiful". See "THE ENIGMA" before his trademark jigsaw tattoo when he was simply called "SLUG", "THE TORTURE KING", "MR. LIFTO" and all your favorite "freaks"! If you like Jim Rose this video is for you!
J.R.C.S ON "BEYOND BIZARRE"(CL)(A) - Very cool Jim Rose footage, and also includes fantastic footage of FAKIR and NOMAD body art studios.
X-FILES: HUMBUG(SF)(A-) - The famous Jim Rose episode of the X-Files.

BIZARRE RITUALS: DANCES SACRED AND PROFANE (DVDR) – Top of the line mondo about the photographic images of Charles Gatewood. Including Mardi Gras, the unusual life style of body modification expert Fakir Musafir, and the American Indian Sundance ceremony. Though certainly disturbing, this is unusually moving, and fascinating as well.
TATTOO (DVDR)(A)-LTBX, SUBTITLED - Gruesome and effective Horror movie in the SE7EN mold from Germany about a serial killer cutting off and keeping people's tattoos! This could be a real horror to the whole Hardcore/EMO crowd! With lots of creepy atmosphere and nasty violence, this is a keeper.

THE CAT'S VICTIM AKA CAT WITH THE JADE EYES/WATCH ME WHEN I KILL (1977)(DVDR)- A killer stalks a city with a cat-like face. The Goblinesque score gives this film an excellent quality. See a victim's head stuffed in the oven and destroyed by hot potatoes--you didn't see that coming, did ya?
DEATH LAID AN EGG *AKA* PLUCKED/A CURIOUS WAY TO LOVE (1967)(DVDR) - A very Godardian Giallo with a poultry farmer who breeds wingless and headless chickens. Murder and scandal pass through this film in true Italian style. Possibly the strangest Giallo out there.
FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET (1971)(DVDR) - Directed by Dario Argento. A rock musician stabs his persecutor, only to become framed for the murders of his band mates and friends. This Giallo from Argento is a true classic to the genre. A vital clue surfaces when a medical team photograph the retina of a recent victim and can extract the image of the dead woman's last sight. The Ennio Morricone score is perfect, as is the European atmosphere and incredible sequences of violence. Don't miss the exciting climax of this classic.
GENTLY BEFORE SHE DIES(1972)(DVDR) - Italian w/ English Subtitles/ Directed by Sergio Martino. An edgy Giallo version of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Black Cat."
GIALLO A VENEZIA(1979)(DVDR) - Italian Language w/ English Subtitles. It doesn't get worse than this. One of the sleaziest films to come out of Italy; the pinnacle moment has to be when the killer is chopping a young girl's legs off and continually slaps her in the face to wake her up so she can feel the pain.
MURDER OBSESSION *AKA* SATAN'S ALTAR/UNCONCIOUS/THE WAILING/FEAR/DELIRIUM (1980) (DVDR) - UNCUT 92 minute import print of aka 'L'Ossessione Che Uccide/Deliria/Fear' the excellent 1980 giallo/horror film from Riccardo 'I Vampiri' Freda. Michael, an actor, invites his girlfriend, leading actresses and director to his home for an on location shoot. Once there, Michael is haunted by visions of his father's murder and develops an incestuous relationship with his mother. Murders abound, corpses pile up and the girls have nightmares of torturous Black Mass rituals. A graphic and bloody film with plenty of nudity. With Stefano Patrizi, Anita Stindberg, Laura 'Emanuelle' Gemser, John Richardson and Silvia Dionisio. This version contains the second Black Mass/Dream sequence missing from the US prints.
PERFUME OF THE LADY IN BLACK (1973)(DVDR) - Sylvia, a scientist, begins having troubled visions and disturbing memories of her childhood and finds herself sinking into a world of fantasy. When her friendâs start mysteriously being killed, Sylvia's life takes a downward spiral leading her to a series of brutal murders. Little to her knowledge, her fate is a cruel plan conceived by a Satanic sect practicing ancient Witchcraft rites and cannibalism. Her current events are nothing in comparison with the horror of what the sect ultimately has in store for her. The shocking, grueling, bloodbath of an ending rivals anything seen in Cannibal Holocaust. Called "one of the best European thrillers of the 70's" this atmospheric, very obscure, highly recommended and undiscovered masterpiece stars Mimsy Farmer, Mario Scaccia, Daniela Barnes, Maurizio Bonuglia and Jho Jhenkins.
PHANTOM IF DEATH(1987)(DVDR) - Directed by Ruggero Deadato and Starring Donald Pleasance. This film was originally released for TV viewers, but this is the European version with all of the grizzly murders and white knuckled gore. A killer is on the loose and claims he will never get caught because of the secrets that are within his head; as the plot moves on, and the red herrings are set free, accusations point in the strangest directions.
THE BLOODY EXORCISM OF COFFIN JOE(A-)- This film is a riot!
PERVERSION(A-)- See Coffin Joe bite a womans tit off!

DAWN OF THE DEAD GERMAN CUT (1978) 155 MIN, (B)(DVDR) - This is the longest known cut of this classic Zombie film from Germany. That also means that the film is in German language only. This has taken the Argento cut and the Romero version and spliced them together. There's loads more gore and bloodshed and makes up for the shoddy editing.
DAWN OF THE DEAD 22 YEAR REUNION (2000) 116 MIN, (C)(DVDR) - This video footage of the 22 year reunion of Dawn of the Dead cast members includes interviews, Q&A sessions, and clips from the movie. After the rape, the girls stumble off through the woods and encounter Ron Darby and his psycho hippie cult who decides to kill them. This HARD TO FIND and rarely seen film contains tons of sleaze and full-frontal nudity AND SOME rape scenes are very long and surprisingly nasty IN THE SAME VEIN AS I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE
GHOSTKEEPER (DVDR) - Canadian version of THE SHINING. Some tourists get lost in a snowstorm, stay overnight in a creepy old lodge and meet a crazy old hag who forgets to tell them about a ghost creature that lives in the basement and feasts on human flesh.

A must for any fans of horror documentaries. Others subjects covered: H.P. Lovecraft, Shinya Tsukamoto, Shirley Jackson, John Carpenter, The Exorcist, Tom Savini, and much more. This is the best documentary on the horror genre you will see.
DUST DEVIL: DIRECTOR'S CUT (1992) 104 MIN, (C)(DVDR) - This is a haunting and unique horror film about 3 travelers who meet up in the Namibian desert. They come across a supernatural being who kills in a ritualistic fashion. Filled with disturbing gore and eeriness, this is the original cut of this film, restoring an extra 30 minutes that were cut upon release. This is very rare and is the only way to experience this overlooked film. STARRING JOHN MATSHIKIZAD, ROBERT JOHN BURKE, CHELSEA FIELD • DIRECTED BY RICHARD STANLEY
DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS UNCUT (1965) 98 MIN, (B+)(DVDR) - Evil things start happening to five travellers on an overnight train after they're told their fortunes by a mysterious old man (Peter Cushing) who turns out to be... well, you'll see. BURN, WITCH, BURN (1962) 90 MIN, (B)(DVDR) - Professor Norman Taylor is a very skeptical man, while his wife believes in magic and witchcraft. One day, he finds lots of amulets and witchcrafts in his house, and he decides to destroy all of them. His wife gets scared and advises him that he destroyed all the protection their home and lives had against the evil of envious and wicked persons, including some of his colleagues. Norman in principle does not have faith in her, but when some very strange things start happening, he begins to change his mind. This is a surprisingly spooky and underrated little horror film and worth seeing. B&W. STARRING PETER WYNGARDE, JANET BLAIR • DIRECTED BY SYDNEY HAYERS
I DRINK YOUR BLOOD UNCUT (1970) 90 MIN, (A)(DVDR) - This little-known, rarely-seen Times Square gem is actually a horrific, surreal, psychedelic zombie film which surpasses your usual cheap grindhouse fare. When a band of hippie devil-worshipers hit a small town and chase everyone out save for a few folks, Grandpa goes out to shut 'em down. Taking control, the hippies force-feed him acid and beat him up. Meanwhile, the grandson vows to get even and feeds the hippies some pies that he's injected with contaminated blood from a rabid dog. Unfortunately, the plan backfires as the Hippies turn into murderous zombies! Very unique and very gory, this film has been impossible to find in its uncut form. A DVD was released and then quickly went out of print and fetches up to $100+ on eBay. This is great quality, in full glory. STARRING BHASKAR ROY CHOWDHURY, JADINE WONG • DIRECTED BY DAVID DURSTON
PHENOMENA : INTEGRAL HARD VERSION (1985) 110 MIN, (B)(DVDR) - This is a typically stylish Argento horror film, nicely shot and nicely acted. Sure, as with all Argento films (and Giallos in general) there are some story holes and flaws, but this is one of Argento's better films and is recommended. Especially in this, the "integral hard version". Running 6 minutes longer, this includes footage not shown even in the so-called "uncut" version by Anchor Bay. There's no need for a synopsis here except to say that this is an Argento film set in a boarding school involving a girl who can communicate with insects who is being terrorized by a killer. Enough said- you know if you want to see it or not. STARRING JENNIFER CONNOLY, DONALD PLEASANCE • DIRECTED BY DARIO ARGENTO
PERFUME OF THE LADY IN BLACK (1974) 101 MIN, (C+)(DVDR) - This is an extremely stylish and beautifully shot occult horror film that is often regarded as one of the most underrated Italian horror movies ever made. This film influenced the works of Dario Argento-there are themes and set-pieces that would re-appear,virtually unchanged,in Argento's "Deep Red","Suspiria" and "Inferno". The cinematography is simply astounding and the score by Nicola Piovani is genuinely creepy. Mimsy Farmer plays an industrial scientist named Silvia who is troubled by strange hallucinations. These images that seem so real point to a tragic event from her childhood:the suicide of her mother. "The Perfume of the Lady in Black" is obviously inspired by both "Don't Look Now" and "Rosemary's Baby",but there are some lashings of grisly violence(the evisceration/cannibalism scene is particularly nasty and gruesome). Overall, this Italian baffling psycho-shocker is a suitably unsettling exercise in psychological horror with incredibly beautiful Mimsy Farmer.A must-see for anyone interested in Italian horror. STARRING MIMSY FARMER, MARURIZIO BONUGLIA • DIRECTED BY FRANCESCO BARILLI
THE MAGICIAN (1926) 83 MIN, (C-)(DVDR) -
